Annotation:

The authors of the article focus on risks minimization during wells construction using a modified gypsum-lime drilling solution with sodium format (GIBR-3). The relevance of the problem is substantiated: by the fact that unstable clay and argillite rocks often experience complications such as rock slides, cavings, and swelling, leading to accidents, cost increase and well construction delays. Special attention is paid to the inhibitory mechanisms of GIBR-3, including osmotic clay dehydration, replacement of sodium ions by calcium ions, pH stabilization, filter cake formation and reduced rock hydration. In laboratory conditions, the solution demonstrated stable structural-rheological properties, resistance to contamination, and low filtration. Field tests at nine wells at the Romashkinskoye field confirmed its effectiveness: no rock slides were recorded, the well walls remained stable and tripping operations were carried out without complications. The use of GIBR-3 helps maintaining the reservoir properties, which is especially important when productive horizons opening. The solution maintains its properties even being diluted and exposed to formation water, demonstrating its stability in variable conditions. Furthermore, the GIBR-3 system is easily adapted to various technological tasks and can be modified to meet specific drilling conditions.
