Annotation:

Coiled tubing drilling (CTD) technology as well as its combined use with electric downhole motors can be a promising approach to improving technical-economic performances of high-tech well construction, reconstruction and repair. It offers clear advantages over traditional drill pipes drilling. Global trends of CTD indicate the demand for this technology and the expansion of its application areas. The authors of the article based on the analysis of scientific works and the authors' participation in specialized conferences, overview the application of CTD technology in Russia and abroad. The article presents historical drilling data in Russia as well as the most significant drilling examples abroad, where this technology originated and accounts for a significant portion of sidetracks and laterals drilling. Attention is paid to modern equipment for directional drilling using coiled tubing and the technology development prospects.
