Annotation:

One of the well-known types of equipment for producing hydrocarbons from deviated wells and sidetracks is the cable-assisted sucker rod pumping unit (SRPU). Cable-assisted sucker rod being more flexible than solid rods, adhere to the tubing string by a larger surface area. The increased contact area reduces specific pressure and ensures uniform wear of both the pipes and the sucker rods. Accumulated operational experience with cable-assisted sucker rod pumping units has shown that they are increasingly used in deviated wells. However, the number of cable rods failures leading to sucker rod pumping unit (SPU) failure remains quite high. The authors of the article consider the operational characteristics of SRPU equipped by cable rods. The process of cable rod deformation in a directional well is described. A method for increasing the cable rod's resistance to compressive loads is developed. The proposed method increases the time between repairs for pumping units equipped with cable rods.
