A method for estimating the detergent capacity of buffer compositions in static and dynamic conditions

Annotation:

One of the main reasons for the low quality of casing cementing is insufficient tightness of the cemented annular space. To improve the quality of cementing, buffer fluids are used, which perform a number of important functions. Currently, more than 100 formulations of buffer fluids are known, the experience of using which takes several decades and has undergone significant changes from "clean" water to detergents, viscoelastic and other compositions. However, the variety of mining and geological conditions, different types and formulations of buffer fluids complicates the choice of the effective composition, which does not allow achieving the desired result. The authors of the article propose a method that provides assessing the detergent capacity of buffer compositions in static and dynamic conditions. The method is based on the assessment of filter cakes structure destruction and the change of their mass before and after exposure to buffer fluids at different flow rates. The destruction of the structure of filter cakes is assessed indirectly by the change of the volume of the filtered buffer liquid through the formed cakes using a filter press, scales and a laboratory mixer with an adjustable rotation speed.
