Annotation:

Well drilling problems in hydrogen sulfide-intensive environments arose back in the 1970s during drilling in Astrakhan, Tengiz, and other fields with high hydrogen sulfide content. Research conducted by scientists has enabled the development of a wide range of drilling fluid formulations, including highly alkaline ones, with the addition of hydrogen sulfide neutralizers, bactericides, and inhibitors. The analysis of the research shows that drilling fluids containing toxic and corrosion-resistant reagents currently in use have a number of drawbacks and are highly material-intensive, which increases the cost and time of wells construction. The authors of the article present the results of studies on the enzymatic degradation of high-molecular-weight compounds exposed to biogenic hydrogen sulfide. Based on the conducted studies, a highly alkaline drilling fluid composition was developed for drilling in aggressive environments. This fluid possesses structural and rheological parameters, enzymatic resistance to degradation by biogenic and natural hydrogen sulfide, and anticorrosive and colmatation properties, ensuring high-quality drilling in permeable formations containing hydrogen sulfide.
