Increase of production well operation efficiency by annular pressure decrease: a case study of the BS4-5 formation

Annotation:

Based on the previously analyzed development characteristics of the BS4-5 formation, it was concluded that the formation has a high gas content and low reservoir pressure. These problems can be solved by implementing annular gas pumping technology, which allows for the removal of excess gas and increases a reservoir drawdown by reducing annular pressure. The authors of the article calculated the flow rate increase achieved by applying annular gas pumping technology. The use of a compressor unit allowed for the total well flow rate increase by 46,5 tons/day. The annular gas pumping process was modeled using the PIPESIM software package, resulting in 11 m3/day increase of one of the wells flow rate and reducing the annular pressure by 25 atm. As a result of implementing the annular gas pumping technology, additional oil production of 17000 tons is projected for 15 wells in the field.
