Annotation:

The authors of the article analyze the reasons for changes of the physical-chemical properties of residual oils during flooding. Two types of residual oil at the macro and micro levels are considered. The results of experimental studies of oils from four fields with varying degree of of residual oil oxidation are presented. The oil samples were examined by infrared spectroscopy (IRS) method. It has been shown that some oils are not susceptible to oxidation processes during flooding. An example of a field is given in which a large volume of residual oil is preserved in the form of large pillars (macro-level) formed as a result of incomplete reservoir coverage by water-flooding. It has been established that such residual oil practically does not differ by physical-chemical properties from oil under initial development conditions. Residual oil changes at the micro-level are also considered. It has been experimentally confirmed that the degree of residual oil oxidation depends on the duration of water injection and the properties of the oil itself. It is concluded that information on the degree of residual oil change should be taken into account when substantiating technologies for its recovery and drafting additional development projects.
