Annotation:

This article analyzes the distinctive features of transnational oil and gas companies operating in Tanzania. It also analyzes the so-called "local content" policy as a tool for stimulating socio-economic development in the country's gas-producing regions. The legal framework for this policy is examined, highlighting the vulnerabilities of this policy. It also analyzes the causes of disagreements between gas-producing regions and the central government regarding the latter's socio-economic and energy policies.
