Annotation:

Taking into account the prospects of natural gas in the development of global energy, the export strategy for the supply of natural gas to European countries, plans for the production of natural gas on the shelf of Russia, the problems of ensuring offshore pipelines reliability and environmental safety are of strategic importance. Despite the measures taken to ensure reliability, there exist a number of factors listed in the article that lead to the risk of accidents. The conducted analysis of emergency situations shows that the main cause of accidents is corrosion phenomena. The advantages and disadvantages of the SMARTPLUG emergency response system used in foreign practice from the point of view of its possibility to be use on offshore gas pipelines in Russia are given.
