Management of port infrastructure development to provide cargo flow along the Northern Sea Route

Annotation:

The authors of the article discuss the role and importance of the Northern Sea Route (NSR) in the context of managing the development of port infrastructure to ensure cargo flow time reduction and cost of goods transportation between Europe and Asia. The economic benefits associated with the use of the NSR have been analyzed as well as obstacles standing in the way of this sea route development have been revealed. Special attention is paid to the necessity of modernizing the port infrastructure, dependence on weather conditions and potential threats to the Arctic ecosystem. It is shown that the freight traffic increase in through the NSR is a priority area of Russian logistics related to the development of the Arctic resource base. Key users of the NSR in Russia have been identified, including such mining companies as "Norilsk Nickel", "Gazprom", "LUKOIL", "Rosneft" and "NOVATEK". The authors of the article presented an important analysis of the current state and prospects for the development of the Northern Sea Route as a key transport way.
