A technique for modeling a variable transport delay, depending on the working fluid flow-rate, is considered for separate technological sections of oil refining industry facilities. An updated structure of a one-dimensional recurrent model in the state space has been developed, which makes it possible to change the transport delay of the model at each control of iteration without making changes in the control system structure. An algorithm for estimating the transport delay at each control of iteration is presented based on a one-dimensional optimization problem solved by the golden section method. The described technique is intended for use when developing predictive models for multivariable controllers of advanced process control systems.
