Designing optimal transport networks for the oil and gas industry

Annotation:

The authors of the article consider a set of mathematical methods and algorithms developed to solve various problems of regional design, mainly in the oil and gas industry. The key methods of regional programming, including the approximation-combinatorial method and the method of sequential calculations, are considered as a methodological basis. The main attention is paid to regional transport networks of various purposes, with a particular focus on oil and gas field networks such as pipelines, roads and electric grids. The problem of constructing a network with discontinuous cost functions on edges is studied and a number of properties of the optimal solution are analyzed. An algorithm for constructing optimal tree-like networks and a number of auxiliary algorithms are presented. Several computer-aided design software systems that implement algorithms for building optimal transport networks are also briefly described.
