Annotation:

This article reveals the features of automatic accounting of the main parameters of tanks capacity that are operated at oil bases. The main models for determining tanks capacity are analyzed. The most economically important types of tanks are identified from the point of view of logistics and quality control of petroleum products. Problems with the calculation of the "dead cavity" of tanks and its effect on the final result of determining tanks capacity are described. Particular attention is paid to the methods of determining the capacity of tanks by a relatively new method, an electron-optical one, that is, using 3D-scanner, a topological-geodetic technical device (in some cases, an approved type of the measuring device) as the main means of measurement. It is caused by the fact that in the professional environment of specialists engaged in tanks parameters measurement, there are many disputes about the accuracy characteristics of the 3D scanner itself and the error of the measurement method relative to the error of the tank itself. In conclusion the attention is focused on the relevance of using the uncertainty calculation when performing operations to determine the capacity of tanks for petroleum products storage.
