Overview of technological solutions for stabilizing clayey-argillite rocks when drilling sidetracks

Annotation:

The deposits of the Western Siberia are characterized by the presence of clay-argillite rocks in the stratigraphic section, which are prone to the loss of stability. Slides and caving of such rocks cause puffs, landings and sticking of the drilling tool. Up to 10 % of sidetracks construction time is spent on the elimination of such complications. To level such problems, various technological solutions are used in practice: cationic drilling fluids, hydrocarbon-based fluids, specialized process fluids, additional process casing strings. The article analyzes the above-mentioned methods of clayey-argillite rocks stabilization: the advantages and disadvantages of their use for drilling sidetracks are revealed.
