Geological justification of oil and gas fields development in the northeastern part of the Baku archipelago due to mud volcanoes and their influence

Annotation:

Based on theoretical and experimental studies, comprehensive work was carried out to provide a more accurate forecast of oil and gas production in the north-western part of the Baku archipelago (Sangachal-Duvanni-Khara, Zira Island, SDHZ). Based on the samples taken from individual wells that were in operation in different years – in 1993 and 2006 – before and after the volcanic eruption in the area understudy, the inter-well zone was monitored. All parameters changes that occurred along the directions of wells when production changed were studied in detail and reconstructed; thickness porosity, effective porosity and clay-sandiness of the SDHZ were studied in detail, maps of area distribution along horizons V and VII of the productive formation were built. The results of modeling zones of generation and accumulation of hydrocarbons gave grounds for predicting the existence of a large center of oil and gas generation in the subducting zone of the Southern Caspian as well as confirmed the presence of numerous lithological and structural traps formed as a result of changes in tectonic conditions of facies and sedimentation.
