During geological-technological studies of sludge, the determination of the qualitative composition of bitumen, as well as when conducting quantitative luminescent bituminological analysis (LBA), is performed visually – by comparison with standards (standard solutions). The bitumen qualitative composition is determined approximately by the color of their capillary extracts luminescence and the solutions luminescence nature. Replacing the visual method of performing high-quality LBA by an instrumental, digital one would allow automating the data processing process, reducing resources and processing time and accumulating fields databases. In order to "digitize" the qualitative analysis, it is proposed to analyze the spectra using the method of calculating color in the CIE XYZ space. Spectra were obtained and chromaticity coordinates were calculated for six different oils. A simplified method for determining color by intensity ratio at three wavelengths is described. The composition of six samples with the classification according to the standard LBA and with the results of digitization of the spectra was compared. A procedure has been proposed for the analysis of bitumen in rocks using portable instruments. Examples are given of using color coordinates not only to assign bitumen to one or another composition group, but also to assess technological properties (density). It is concluded that both quantitative and qualitative LBA can be implemented instrumentally in a field.
