Annotation:

The main reserves of natural gas in Russia are confined to the territory of the permafrost zone. A significant part of the deposits is concentrated in the gas form, and the technologies applied for drilling and operating such wells are well known. However, certain thermobaric conditions in the reservoir contribute to the formation of gas hydrates - with a particularly high probability in permafrost zones. Despite the fact that up to 90% of the gas produced in the country is extracted from under the cryolithozone and further prospects for increasing production are also associated with the development of fields in the area of the cryolithozone, the cryolithozone interval itself remains virtually unexplored in terms of the possibility of forming gas accumulations. The authors of the article analyze the problems of hydrate formation in permafrost conditions. The use of a drilling mud with an optimal formulation is recommended as an effective method aimed at preventing hydrate formation during wells construction.
