Influence of the parent wellbore tortuosity on a well sidetracking technological efficiency

Annotation:

The possibility of a well sidetracking is ensured not only by using modern equipment that meets quality standards, but also by using the right approach to analyzing various aspects of the previously drilled well. The factors influencing the technological efficiency of sidetracking from a given well in terms of technology and engineering are identified. It has been established that one of the factors – the parent wellbore tortuosity – characterizes the complex geometry of the well trajectory, and therefore requires quantitative assessment to improve the efficiency and speed of work at the initial stages of selecting and preparing a well for further sidetracking. A method for calculating the spatial tortuosity coefficient is proposed, numerical boundaries are established and groups of tortuosity criteria are identified.
