Controlled parameters optimization when implementing technologies of steam-assisted gravity drainage based on numerical experiments

Annotation:
The authors of the article study of the problems of high-viscous oil and natural bitumen production. The problem is becoming increasingly important every year due to a significant reduction of oil reserves produced by traditional technologies and constantly accelerating growth of the share of hard-to-recover reserves. According to various estimates, the share of hard-to-recover reserves as of 2023 is 60–70 %, of which about 30 % are high-viscosity oils and bitumen. The authors of thearticle examine the SAGD technology, the essence of which lies in the most effective thermal impact on the formations of high-viscousoils and bitumen as compared with well-known thermal methods of oil production. Laboratory studies have shown that the steam-assisted gravity drainage technology can be a reliable basis for a short-term and long-term forecasting of hydrocarbon production, provided that such combinations of technological parameters of the well operational mode are selected that will ensure the highest flow rates and reservoir production at the lowest operating costs.
