Annotation:

The authors of the article pay attention to a number of distinctive features of wells casing strings from horizontally extended objects such as pipelines. Casing strings often require the use of cathodic protection. The differences indicated in the article affect the approaches used in the design of such systems and complicate calculations. These features should be taken into account due to the fact that they can significantly affect the distribution of electrical characteristics. The main characteristics for calculating cathodic protection of well casing strings are current density, current strength increase and potentialincrease. In addition, the existing approaches to calculation of the characteristics of well casings’ required cathodic protection equipment, both at the design stage and at already operating facilities, were investigated. The advantages and disadvantages of the approaches under consideration are described.
