Annotation:

The authors of the article consider the problem of assessing drill string stability against axial load during directional drilling of wells. As a result of theoretical developments, it was revealed that the most loaded element of the drill string is the curved section, for which formulas were obtained for assessing the stress state in case of buckling, taking into account the influence of the vertical and horizontal (inclined) sections of the drill string. In this case, two formulas are proposed, one of which takes into account the influence of the weight load from the vertical section. For a preliminary assessment, it is recommended to use a simplified version.
