Improvement of wells construction quality at the Uzenskoe field by using POLYCAT polymer-cationic drilling mud

Annotation:
The number of fields with biogenic hydrogen sulfide has lately continued to grow steadily. The cause of biogenic hydrogen sulfide production is micro-organisms introduction into the oil and gas reservoir by drilling mud or water-flooding liquid. Maintaining enzymatic stability and reducing the risk of contamination of productive oil and gas reservoirs by microorganisms require using enzymatically stable drilling fluids. For The construction of production wells in the geological conditions of the Western Kazakhstan made the specialists of "Gazprom VNIIGAZ" LLC and "Asia PetroService" LLP develop "POLYCAT" polymer-cationic drilling fluid based on a locally produced "MAX НIB" cationic polyelectrolyte. Before conducting the pilot testing, "POLYCAT" polymer-cationic drilling fluid was subjected to all laboratory tests for the polluting effect on natural cores of the terrigenous reservoir, for the inhibitory capacity in order to prevent production and disposal as well as for enzymatic stability of being reused in subsequent wells under construction and prevent disposal. Since microorganisms and bacteria are negatively charged bodies, the interaction between cationic polyelectrolytes and negatively charged microorganisms can be considered by analogy with clay minerals. It means that there is a connection between the inhibitory capacity and enzymatic resistance. The inhibitory capacity and enzymatic resistance are determined by the presence of free cationic polyelectrolyte in the working fluid. Pilot industrial tests of the POLYCAT polymer-cationic drilling mud at the Uzenskoye field were successful and proved a positive result. For the first time, it became possible to prevent the disposal of the solution and reduce the environmental impact due to reuse. The "POLYCAT" high inhibitory capacity provides the quality raise of the primary opening of the productive terrigenous horizon, eliminating the necessity of conducting expensive hydraulic fracturing.
