The author of the article considers examples of non-standard problems solution using gas logging. The method is based on determining the volume and composition of gases contained in the gas-air mixture entering the surface from the well and is a direct one unlike other types of logging that solves the problem of identifying productive reservoirs in the well section and their saturation. The results of gas logging while drilling wells represent information on the saturation of formations. The above-mentioned method is used to control and prevent gas-oil-water shows (GOWSh) during wells drilling, promptly assess of formation saturation, formation fluid properties, determination of gas-oil contact (GOC) and oil-water contact (OWC). The recent achievements of this technology application have increased the reliability and accuracy of the method, thereby increasing the relevance of the research. The use of operational gas logging data, adjusted for recirculation gas, allows obtaining the data comparable with the data received in the course of studies of formation fluid in laboratory conditions. Gas logging is carried out directly during the drilling process, without interrupting the work of the drilling crew and equipment. This gives it additional advantages in those cases where the traditional complex of well logging (WL) turned out to be technically or economically ineffective. In this regard, in recent years, the range of tasks solved by gas logging has expanded. It is used for prompt determination of high-viscous oil intervals, faults in the drilling interval, obtaining additional information on reservoir pressure for completing horizontal wells. The above enumerated facts necessitate further development, testing and popularization of the method for further expansion of its capabilities.
