Optimization of ice-resistant block-conductors design for offshore fields

Annotation:
The authors of the article consider modern approaches to the design and optimization of block-conductors designs used for the development of offshore fields in shallow water ice conditions. Block-conductor designs with a reduced diameter due to the two-tier arrangement of the wellhead equipment are analyzed out in terms of resistance to ice loads, compared to a single-tier arrangement. Taking into account the tendency of reservoir pressures increase at offshore gas fields in the Russian Federation and the necessity of reducing the diameter of support columns in ice conditions, the two-tier arrangement of the wellhead equipment provides obvious advantages. The increase of the size and weight of the X-mas tree designed for ultra-high pressure is caused by increased requirements for strength, tightness and safety of the equipment. Ice loads on support columns of different diameters are calculated. Particular attention is paid to the two-tier arrangement of the X-mas tree, which allows reducing the diameter of the support columns. Based on the analysis conducted, recommendations are proposed for the selection and optimization of block-conductors design.
