The paper considers the problems of pipelines testing. In particular, the experience of conducting hydraulic testing is analyzed and the characteristic features and advantages of hydraulic shock testing are presented. It is shown that the conditions of a pipeline section impact testing are limited mainly by the mechanical properties of the pipe metal, the error of the testing method and the properties of the measuring instruments. The parameters of hydraulic testing – the value of the pipeline’s testing load, the permissible range of pressure increase rate are substantiated on a specific example. The aftereffects of loads impact on the pipeline, which are controlled hydraulic shocks, are analyzed. Application of the acoustic-emission method of non-destructive testing allowed getting the characteristics of the shock wave, when it passed along the section of the pipeline. The maximum energy jump in the pipe and the wave propagation rate are revealed. The authors of the paper also draw attention to the necessity of additional research and the development of a methodology for conducting impact tests during the overhaul of pipelines, which, unlike new ones, are characterized by different deformation properties and the level of residual stresses.
