Content of the "drilling waste" term

Annotation:

The subject of the study is the terminology in the field of drilling waste management, the object – PNST 472-2020 Resource saving. Waste management. General requirements for drilling waste handling. Based on the example of multiple terms, in particular "drilling waste", "drilling wastewater", "waste drilling fluid", "drilling cuttings", it is found that the requirements for terms and the general unity of terminology are not met in the standard. Contents of the general term "drilling waste" do not reflect the actual relationship that objectively exists between the components of the standardization. It is shown that when standardizing objects that have an intersectoral nature, for example, "resource saving–drilling", one should objectively reflect the specifics of each component of the standardization object. To adequately display this specificity, it is necessary to analyze the location, surroundings and content of the drilling process in the life cycle of wells. It is concluded that applied terminology should be corrected and improved in a balanced way, which wouldn’t allow multiplying errors. A simple compilation is not suitable here, it is necessary to systematize and critically analyze existing terms, and, if necessary, rethink them, observing the established requirements. At the same time, the examination of draft documents on standardization cannot be excluded from the standardization procedure.
