The mining industry is one of the dynamically developing areas of the industry in the Republic of Azerbaijan after the fuel and energy complex. Starting from 2009, the annual production potential of this industry is estimated at 10...15 tons of precious metal. Two competing companies – Azerbaijan International Mining Company (AIMC) and AzeriGold – are the determining factors in this industry. AIMC currently occupies the leading position among non-oil enterprises. The production capacity of AIMC is 1 million tons of ore per year, where grinding mills such as SAG MILL and BAAL MILL are used for grinding. It is known that about 60 % of the total financial costs in the mining sector are related to the crushing and grinding of ores. Increasing the efficiency and service life-time of the equipment used in these processes is an urgent and important task. The article deals with the problem of determining the optimal design parameters for lifting lifters in ball mills of the SAG MILL type. It has been established that one of the main factors affecting the quality of ore grinding is the ratio of the distance between the lifters and their height. An empirical relationship between this indicator and the technological parameters of the ore grinding process is proposed.
