"Green" cementing, or wells casing jobs potential by application of cement slurries based on fly ash

Annotation:

In the context of "Green" Construction, the authors of the article study explore the possibility of using fly-ash as an alternative replacement for Portland cement. In order to evaluate the applicability of fly-ash cement for wells casing, publications on the research of this scope were analyzed and laboratory tests of fly-ash cement mixtures and their comparison with similar recipes based on G class cement were carried out. Fly-ash cement mixtures demonstrated an increase of the cement stone strength properties and expansion of the cement ring. The thickening time of fly-ash cement slurries was slightly reduced compared to traditional cement slurry. Significance of this subject is associated with the objective necessity for gradual transition to "green" materials and technologies, with a focus on reducing negative impact of Portland cement production, as well as the possibility of utilization of by-products and industrial waste of the fuel and energy complex. As a result of the conducted studies, the fly-ash cement mixtures satisfying the requirements for well casing operations in oil and gas wells are presented.
