Study of compatibility of well killing fluids with productive formation components

Annotation:

The authors of the article reveal their original approach to experimental testing of well-killing fluid compatibility with productive formation components. Using the objects of NIS Naftagas (Serbia) as an example, some specific features of testing for sedimentation stability of well-killing fluid and formation water mixtures, tests for determining emulsification of oil samples with well-killing fluids, tests for dispersion and swelling of productive formation minerals in the well-killing fluid environment and filtration tests for determining reduction in phase permeability for oil after exposure of the core to well-killing fluid are discussed. It has been established that there is no risk of formation damage due to emulsion formation during well-killing. The tested well-killing fluids are compatible with formation water, complete mixing occurs, and the resulting mixtures are thermally stable. Concentrations of potassium chloride and a water-repellent agent have been selected to provide better protection against swelling of minerals that compose the productive formations of objects under study. The methodology of conducting experiments with unbound core material is discussed, problems of selecting the confining pressure for such samples are identified and a decrease of oil permeability after killing fluid exposure is determined.
