Annotation:

The article discusses the transformation of the idea of a field geological structure during additional exploration on the example of the field named after A. Alabushin in the Komi Republic, where an attempt was made to identify the causes of the contradiction between the raw material base and the development of the field.

The drawbacks of the traditional approach to assessing the results of the prospecting and appraisal stage of the field development are shown, which does not fully take into account the conditions and features of the formation of barrier reef carbonate structures. The importance of using additional methods of analysis, for example, sequence-stratigraphic one, and development data, for detailing the geological structure of deposits is indicated.

Changes in the approaches to the search and exploration of complexly-built organogenic structures for deposits of the same type and the same age in the Denisovskaya depression deposits are proposed, with an assessment of their resource potential – taking into account along with a structural factor, which is a sign of the probable presence of a deposit, and non-structural factors of oil accumulations availability in reef massifs.

The described experience of creating new conceptual geological models of barrier reef carbonate structures at the Alabushin field makes it possible to build a geological model that corresponds to the state of a field development and opens up prospects for further exploration in the region.
