This article describes the methodology and results of studies to assess the distribution of residual water saturation in real core samples using X-ray computed tomography. The aim of the research is to increase the informativeness of petrophysical laboratory studies by developing a method for determining residual water saturation using computed tomography, as well as comparing the results with laboratory studies. The algorithm for determining residual water saturation is based on the analysis of integral intensities of absorption spectra, which is also used in other methods of studying the chemical composition of a substance, for example, infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance. The method was tested by using standard petro-physical samples of terrigenous and carbonate deposits that differ in reservoir properties and types. The developed method made it possible to determine residual water the distribution in core samples, which can serve as additional information for development engineers of oil and gas fields.
