Annotation:

The necessity of studying fluid seals quality of the Upper Devonian carbonate deposits in the Orenburg region is associated with recent oil deposits discoveries in the Famennian carbonate section. Building of high-quality geological models based on 3D seismic survey data provided not only preparation of a number of promising objects for drilling, discovery of new fields, but also for clarifying a regional composition of carbonate rock mass.

Special petrographic, lithological-sedimentological, geomechanical studies of a core from the Famennian fluid seals made it possible to lay the foundation for understanding of their lithological structure, mineralogical composition and facies features of their formation. The results of this work created a basis for development of quality assessment criteria of the Upper Devonian fluid seals, allowed building fluid seals’ quality risk maps, which were further used when assessing license areas prospects, laying new exploration wells and prospecting for missed deposits at the fields being developed.
