Annotation:

In the Berriasian-Aptian deposits section of the Western Siberia Arctic regions and the Kara Sea shelf, the Berriasian-Lower Aptian (Neocomian) and Middle-Upper Aptian megacomplexes are identified, which are of the greatest interest in this region in terms of oil and gas potential.

Clinoform and shelf complexes are identified in the Yamal, Gydan and South Kara oil and gas potential areas as part of the Neocomian megacomplex. The Neocomian shelf complex and the Middle Upper Aptian megacomplex are composed of interbedded sandy and clay packs, the clinoform complex has a cross-bedded structure. On the continental margin of the Western Siberia the Neocomian clinoforms were formed due to the influx of terrigenous material from the eastern and south-eastern framing of the plate and are inclined in a north-western direction. On the shelf of the Kara Sea, the Neocomian clinoforms are inclined into the south, west and east directions and were formed due to the influx of sediments from the Novaya Zemlya archipelago and the Siberian sill.

Oil and gas prospective objects of the clinoform complex are represented by complexly-composed non-anticlinal traps; in the Middle-Upper Aptian megacomplex and shelf formations of the Neocomian, hydrocarbon reservoirs are usually controlled by anticlinal structures. In the relief of the Middle-Upper Aptian and Neocomian mega-complexes top, 97 anticlinal oil and gas prospective objects were identified, including 61 on the continent and 36 in the water area.
