Annotation:

The distribution of gigantic hydrocarbon deposits in world basins is controlled by some common geological patterns, common for such structures. Therefore, it is possible to derive additional information on the distribution of such deposits within a basin by performing a typological analysis of similar basins worldwide. For regional research of the world’s largest regional basin – South Caspian Basin (SCB) by applying the method several similar largest basins are allocated, the information on which can be used for comparative and correlation analysis. The key factors of generation, migration and accumulation of hydrocarbons susceptible of such comparative studies are briefly discussed. The author of the article pays special attention to sedimentation parameters, distribution of zones of anomaly high reservoir pressure and geotemperature regime of the basin. All these factors characteristic for SCB are favorable for the existence of yet undiscovered giant oil and gas structures at very big depths in addition to already discovered three giant fields.
