Annotation:

Currently, special attention is paid to complexly composed deposits of the Tyumen formation, which are characterized by high lithological heterogeneity, are not consistent laterally and are confined to channel flows.

Most of the large deposits of the Western Siberia were discovered and put into development in 1960–1980, so the idea of their geological structure was often initially realized in a simplified form. Due to the limited amount of data, the reservoir conceptual framework laid at the first stages of studying the deposits could not correctly reflect the entire complexity of the Tyumen formation geological structure, and only over time, as the of the deposits studying sufficiently increased, it became clear that the Tyumen formation composition is much more complex than it seems. Thus, reservoir models have been replaced by new, complex conceptual channel.

The authors of the article, using the example of one of the fields in the Western Siberia, briefly show the process of creating a detailed geological model of Tyumen deposits with a change of the concept from "strata" to "channel" using advanced methodological approaches to seismic materials interpretation.
