Annotation:
Numerous studies prove the fact that, despite the rapid development of renewable energy, hydrocarbons are and will remain the dominant source of energy in the medium term. In this regard, the problems of reserves depletion are particularly acute. The authors of the article present quantitative estimates of accumulated production and proven reserves as well as the replenishment rate, calculated as the ratio of the reserves amount change to the accumulated production over the same period. It is shown that the situation with hydrocarbon reserves replenishment in the world is not optimistic and requires the development of a long-term strategy for their production. A number of tasks for the energy sector development in the Russian Federation have been formulated.
