Annotation:

Russian sector of the Pricaspian Depression has considerable unexplored hydrocarbon resources. To explore these resources, it is necessary to define perspective exploration directions – to forecast big reservoirs zones in the subsalt sequence. The author of the article substantiates a new exploration direction of exploration activities in the north-western part of the depression, associated with redeposited carbonate clastics in the subsalt Nadvereyskiy carbonate formation. Clastics are products of wave erosion on the carbonate paleo-shelf edge, which was surrounding a deep-water paleo-basin at end of the Carboniferous age. The abrasion has been induced by the Pre-Permian sea level fall. The Nadvereyskiy clastics were characterized by a lot of oil and gas showings. At 10…60 km distance from the Pricaspian depression’s margin a thick clinoform has been revealed which is reversed to margin clinoform. The reversed clinoform is a linear zone, where the Nadvereyskiy carbonate complex thickness increases sharply from 40…280 to 700 m inside the depression. The main volume of the redeposited carbonate clastics seems to be concentrated in this reversed clinoform, where reservoirs zones are to be widespread. Taking into account availability of oil and gas occurrences from the clastic sequences, this thickness should be looked upon as an exploration new venture for oil and gas reserves around the north-western part of the Pricaspian depression, where large hydrocarbon deposits may be discovered.
