Annotation:

This article analyses the presence of shallow gas in the upper part of the section of offshore oil and gas fields on the shelf of the Sea of Okhotsk and considers the risks associated with it. Based on the results of engineering and geological surveys, the area and depth distribution, genesis and formation mechanism of shallow gas accumulations are shown. It is shown that there is a risk of emergencies during well construction and operation of facilities. On the basis of the conducted research recommendations are given to ensure safe development of offshore fields at the design stage. It is recommended to carry out systematic detailed engineering-geological surveys and geophysical studies not only at separate sites prepared for deep drilling, along the routes of projected pipelines or facilities, but also on the whole area of the field.
