Forecast of hydrocarbon accumulations at great depths in sedimentary basins

Annotation:
The presented work is devoted to the results of the comparative analysis of the correlation dependencies between the Trace Elements (TE) compositions of oils of the Volga-Ural, West Siberian oil and gas basins (OGB), as well as oil shows of mud volcanism and oils of the South Caspian OGB and the chemical composition of the earth’s crust at different levels (lower, middle and upper) to assess the prospects of deep-seated deposits. Based on literary publications, data are presented on hydrocarbon reserves, as well as on the possibility of oil and gas formation processes at great depths. The revealed non-correlation of the content of biogenic and deep elements, as well as high correlations of the TE composition of oils with the composition of the lower part of the earth’s crust indicate an independent supply of TE to oil from different sources, i. e. their polygenic nature. It has been shown that in a number of oil and gas basins, a higher correlation between the TE composition of oils and the compositions of the lower or middle crust may indicate the involvement of deep sediments in the oil generation processes, which increases the predictive estimates of the possibility of identifying mega-reservoirs of oil and gas at great depths.
