Annotation:

Saturation model determines the phase saturations distribution in the reservoir porous media. Saturation model affects reserves estimation significantly, production forecasting and field development planning. The paper provides an overview of various approaches to saturation modeling, examines the construction of the Brooks – Corey model and presents the methodology for its equilibrium initialization in the reservoir simulation model. The integrated approach including geological, geophysical and petrophysical information is important and necessary. The methodology for creating a saturation model is presented as such as core data processing and calculation of reservoir properties in geological and simulation models. Typical errors and causes of discrepancies between geological and simulation models are discussed. The features of equilibrium and non-equilibrium saturation initialization, as well as the process of capillary curves upscaling were considered in the article with special attention.
The proposed methodology allows maintaining consistency between saturations in geological and simulation models while transitioning to equilibrium initialization.
