Coupled geomechanical and hydrodynamic modeling of gas and gas condensate reservoirs with different bedding conditions

Annotation:

This study examines the results of iterative coupled (partially linked) hydrodynamic and geomechanical modeling for two reservoirs with different initial deposition conditions. The impact of changes in the filtration-capacity properties (FCP) of the reservoir, which depend on effective stress and, consequently, on changes in porosity and permeability during development, is investigated. It is shown that deformation effects are particularly pronounced in relatively "soft" reservoirs, where elastic-strength properties are low, and porosity is relatively high. For more "rigid" reservoirs, the influence of changes in geomechanical parameters on production is less significant. The obtained results indicate the necessity of accounting for geomechanics when developing weakly cemented gas and gas-condensate reservoirs, as neglecting rock compaction may lead to errors in determining certain development indicators.
