Assessment of changes in permeability of rocks during its deformation during long-term development of oil and gas fields

Annotation:

The paper analyzes the possibilities of using the dependence of the permeability coefficients of oil and gas reservoir rocks on the magnitude of the decrease in reservoir pressure in them, obtained from relatively short-term laboratory studies on rock samples, for modeling the processes of field development at a late stage.

It is shown that the exponential dependences of the permeability coefficient on the pressure drop, obtained in laboratory studies, can, with a certain adjustment of the exponent, be used to assess the decrease in permeability, caused by rock creep processes, which mainly determine the magnitude of the decrease in rock porosity at the late stage of field development . It has been established that the adjustment of the exponent consists of multiplying it by a certain function, depending on the value of the Poisson’s ratio of the rock.

The proposed approach is based on the use of laboratory research data, obtained by deforming rock samples within the limits of their elastic deformations. The specified limits can be determined by measuring the lateral rock pressure in productive formations when hydraulic fracturing technologies are used in them.
