Annotation:

The article presents the major geological and technological challenges affecting the waterflooding efficiency on the Karazhanbas field of high-viscosity oil. It reviews the techniques applied for production enhancement and increase of sweep efficiency, such as alternating steam and water injection, conformance improvement in injection wells. Additionally, the efficiency of gel-polymer flooding in the neighboring field (North Buzachi), associated the same productive formation, was evaluated. The paper presents the results of production profiles analysis, conducted for several development objects of the field and discusses the efficiency of conformance control on the selected sites of Karazhanbas field. The assessment of the alternating steam and water injection application on several waterflood cells is provided. On the basis of these evaluations, the practical recommendations were formed for water injection improvement and alternating steam/water injection were formed.
