Annotation:

The article considers the elements of the oil and gas potential system of the Baltic oil- and gas-bearing region. The relevance of this work is caused by the increased interest in petroleum potential assessment of continental shelves, including the shelf of the Baltic Sea. Besides, due to the complexity and high cost of offshore areas exploration, there is a need for new approaches to the exploration of deposits. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that this work considers the structures of the Baltic Sea shelf as successively filled structures. Thus, the paper presents a new approach to the identification of promising oil-saturated structures, as well as reveals the regularity of filling local structures by petroleum hydrocarbons. The paper makes a conclusion about presence of all elements of the hydrocarbon system within the territory under consideration, as well as the existence of necessary conditions for the formation, movement and accumulation of hydrocarbon fluids. Based on the results of the conducted research, promising structures were identified and their hydrocarbon resources were evaluated.
