Evaluation of the influence of the horizontal section length on wells operational the efficiency

Annotation:

At present, when designing hydrocarbon deposits development, the priority is paid to achievement of the maximum possible and economically viable oil recovery factor. An effective method, which is used in a significant number of "mature" oil fields, is horizontal wells drilling. It is generally accepted that an increase the horizontal section length brings increase of the flow rate. However, the actual performance of some wells with significant penetration through the reservoir does not contribute to greater cumulative oil production and only worsens economic indicators. As a rule, the length of wells horizontal sections is determined depending on the reasonable density of the well grid by replacing at least two directional wells by one horizontal well and can make 250…500 m. The article assesses the influence of the horizontal section length on the well operational efficiency and proves the following facts: for the group of Yu1 fields the optimal length of the horizontal section makes 100…200 m; in the group of Yu2 fields – 300…400 m; in group S the length of the horizontal section is 400…500 m, being the best in terms of technological parameters. Thus, the analysis performed in the work showed that the lengthening of the horizontal section along the reservoir not always leads to the best technical and economic results.
