Experimental simulation of process liquids impact on complexly composed carbonate reservoirs

Annotation:

The article analyzes the results of filtration experiments performed to study the impact of technical water used as a killing fluid on carbonate reservoirs during underground workovers in operating wells. A distinctive feature of the studies performed is the maximum compliance of the experimental conditions with actual repairs. It was revealed that the industrial water impact on carbonate reservoirs within seven days caused a multiple decrease of their oil permeability, in some cases – a decrease of porosity. The data of specially performed X-ray phase, X-ray fluorescence analyses and scanning electron microscopy were used to assess the reasons for a carbonate reservoir permeability decrease when it comes into contact with process water. Primary and secondary cavities were identified in the volume of the reservoir, within which, as well as in the rock matrix, the presence of clay minerals was revealed. It is likely that clays swell when they come into contact with industrial water, which causes a resulting decrease in porosity and permeability properties. Thus, the fact of the possible clays content in the voids and the matrix of carbonates should be taken into account when designing well killing technologies.
