Prospects for decarbonization of Russian oil and gas industry

Annotation:

The objective of reducing negative impact on the environment faces all industries, and oil and gas industry is no exception. One of the highest priority directions for reducing anthropogenic impact on the environment is minimizing greenhouse gas emissions, especially carbon dioxide.
The oil and gas industry has resources and technologies that allow realizing carbon capture and utilization projects. However, before declaring a full-scale campaign for combating carbon dioxide emissions, it is necessary to conduct an expert assessment of the structure of the emerging volumes of carbon dioxide and identify CO2 sources where can potentially capture carbon dioxide in sufficient volumes to implement effective projects.
The authors of the article analysed the data on carbon dioxide emissions of the Russian oil and gas Industry in order to assess the prospects for CO2 capture and utilization projects. The numerical and qualitative estimates of carbon dioxide emissions and the main sources of carbon dioxide at which the equipment capturing it can be installed are presented. The conclusions on possible directions for solving the problem of decarbonization of the Russian oil and gas industry are made.
