At present time, development of the Company’s oil and gas assets is complicated by a high water-flooding production due to a long history of most fields’ operational life. While oil and formation water flow via pipelines and the wellbore, followed by their mutual mixing there occurs splitting (dispersing), which results in oil-water emulsion generation (OWE). Emulsion is a mixture of two mutually non-soluble liquids, one of which is dispersed in the other one as fine droplets (globules).
The main method of preventing oil-water emulsions formation that complicates production process is injection of demulsifying agents. To be highly efficient, demulsifying agents should have a number of properties, the most important of which is demulsifying activity. However, demulsifies being currently used at present have a dose limit at which causes oil-water emulsions breaking-off during transportation, but there appears an intermediate layer in oil treatment facilities and tanks, which leads to oil treatment failure in a production – transportation – refining process flow, thus significantly affecting stock-tank oil quality and its final cost.
So, development of innovative demulsifying compounds for better efficiency of breaking stable oil-water emulsions is still of vital importance.
The authors of the article present a procedure for development of polyoxyalkylene glycol-ether additives for demulsifying compounds by a multifactorial experiment method and determine optimal ratio of original raw components used in synthesis. They also present a technique for estimation of demulsifying activity of the developed compositions in laboratory conditions.
