Assessment of the reliability of the results of accelerated laboratory tests to determine the efficiency of oilfield corrosion inhibitors in mixed environments

Annotation:

The authors of the article assess the reliability of tests for the effectiveness of oilfield corrosion inhibitors used in oil production processes in mixed environments. The results of laboratory experiments on the assessment of the corrosion rate in a mixed medium by electrochemical method application are presented, which show that even without adding an inhibitor, the corrosion rate in all cells drops from 0,4…0,6 mm/year after one hour of electrodes exposure in a corrosive environment, to 0,04…0,09 mm/year over the next three hours. This phenomenon is explained by the formation a of corrosion products layer that prevents further corrosion processes. Such results impeach a fact of the accuracy of the results obtained to evaluate the effectiveness of corrosion inhibitors for mixed and hydrogen sulfide media conducted in short-term laboratory tests. A model medium with the addition of sodium acetate is proposed. This makes it possible to achieve a stable corrosion rate of 0,75…0,90 mm/year by electrochemical measurement method with the possibility of conducting further experiments for evaluating the effectiveness of inhibition.
