THE IMPACT OF TRANSPORT AND ITS INDIVIDUAL TYPES ON THE GROWTH OF THE RUSSIAN ECONOMY AND GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT (GDP)

Annotation:
For many years, the transport industry has played an important role in the development of the Russian economy due to its territorial and climatic features. At the same time, the various types of transport used in our country affect the economy in different ways. The relevance of studying the role of the transport industry and its individual sectors in the formation of Russia's gross domestic product and ensuring its effective economic development is undeniable. The paper analyzes the impact of the transportation industry and its individual sectors on the growth of the economy and the gross domestic product of Russia over the past 20 years. In order to assess the efficiency of the transportation industry, the indicator of the transportation capacity of the gross domestic product is calculated, and its value is compared when calculating in rubles and in US dollars. The influence of the currency exchange rate on the activities of transportation companies is considered. In the period under study, there observed a reduction in transportation capacity, which has a positive effect on the development of the Russian economy. However, the economic crisis and the coronavirus pandemic, which led to the self-isolation of citizens and the closure of borders, had a negative impact on the transport capacity of the gross domestic product. In addition, the results of the study showed that all types of transport in Russia (rail, sea, inland water, pipeline, road, air) are developing efficiently, annually reducing the transportation capacity, thereby having a positive impact on the country's economic growth. At the same time, the greatest contribution to economic development is made by pipeline and railway transport, which account for the largest cargo turnover.
